Run via [root]# sh linux-brprinter-installer- DCP-J140WWhen it asks for DeviceURI, if you have a networked printer, you may have to specify the specific IP address of the printer.The Brother printer installer script may not properly create /usr/libexec/cups/filters/brlpdwrapperdcpj140w. To get this file, first download the DCP-J140W driver source code from the Brother webpage (the same page that also provides the driver scripts). Then, after you gunzip and tar -xf the file, find the cupswrapperdcpj140w file. Inside that script is a "cat" command that creates brlpdwrapperdcpj140w. Copy and paste that manually to /usr/libexec/cups/filter/brldpwrapperdcpj140w. Then, just for safe measure, copy and paste (or symlink) the contents of /usr/libexec/cups/filters/ to /usr/lib64/cups/filter/. Once done, re-modify the printer through CUPS, and printing should work. Scanner only works after emerging dev-libs/libusb-compat. Thanks to i92guboj for discovering this and posting it on the Gentoo Forums.
Make sure you install app-text/psutils; The filter uses psnup. If using usb make sure to add a udev rule as per gentoo documentation. Copy the filter over to cups; cp /usr/lib64/cups/filter/brother_lpdwrapper_hl3170cdw /usr/libexec/cups/filter/ Finish up with /etc/init.d/cupsd restart
Sindastra, Thank you so much. My epson et-2720 installed fine on Mint 19.3 but I got cups server errors when trying to install it on Mint 20.1. I spent a load of time trying to find a fix to no avail until I found this article and it works perfectly! Again, thanks so much!!
In response.xml you will find a tag that contains the firmware download URL. Next, download the firmware, push it to the printer, and let the printer process it. Before that is done, change the Admin password to something known, it will be used as the user to log into the FTP site (VERY bad practice, do not do this).
Some of Canon's printers use Canon's proprietary CARPS (Canon Advanced Raster Printing System) driver.Rainbow Software have managed to reverse engineer the CARPS data format and have successfully created a CARPS CUPS driver, which is available as carps-cups-gitAUR.The project's GitHub page includes a list of working printers.
To begin, download the PKGBUILD for the epson-inkjet-printer-escpr2AUR package, either with an AUR helper or from a snapshot tarball. Once in the directory with the PKGBUILD, download and extract the source of the package by running makepkg --nobuild.
Identify the PPD used by your printer in the ppd directory. For example, a Workforce 7710 printer uses Epson-WF-7710_Series-epson-escpr2-en.ppd. Let us call it your_ppd_filename. Convert the relevant PPD to a PPD compiler source file using the ppdi utility from the cups package.
hplip provides drivers for HP DeskJet, OfficeJet, Photosmart, Business Inkjet, and some LaserJet printers, and also provides an easy to use setup tool. See -linux-imaging-and-printing/supported_devices/index for the list of supported printers. hplip requires python-pyqt5 to run the GUI qt frontend. hp-setup requires CUPS to be installed and cups.service to be started to save the printer.
If your printer is listed as requiring a binary plugin, install the hplip-pluginAUR package from AUR.If the binary plugin hplip-pluginAUR is a requirement you will need to start the cups.service before the PPD is recognized by hplip. If that does not work, reboot and log in with the printer off. Then switch it on and run a test print.
Since 2016, or 2017, Samsung is no longer in the printers/scanners business. As of 2019, HP partially support some of Samsung printers/scanners. Before 2016, Samsung was a major player. Which is why there are still many Samsung machines around. In addition, Linux, and cups, keep evolving. The bottom line of all this is that supporting Samsung products is at a flux.
A major site for information about Samsung printers/scanners is Samsung Unified Linux Driver Repository. Despite its name, it is not affiliated by Samsung. Neither it is devoted only to samsung-unified-driverAUR. samsung-unified-driver, on the other hand, is close source by Samsung. It also encompass Windows and Mac. It might be the first stop to get a driver for a Samsung printer and scanner as it, or was, claim to support practically every one of these. Note that samsung-unified-driver includes software that can stand on its own, not tied to cups. If you can not get the printer to work with cups, you might try this route.
Note that the driver is 32 bit, so some 32 bit libraries will be required on an x86_64 system: lib32-libpng12, lib32-zlib, lib32-libjpeg6-turbo, lib32-libcups, lib32-libxext, lib32-libx11, lib32-gcc-libs, lib32-libstdc++5AUR
Visit the Brother Linux Driver Homepage and download the appropriate drivers in .rpm format.For this device the LPR driver, the cupswrapper driver and the brscan 64bit scanner driver are required.While there, read the install instructions for both the printer driver and the scanner driver. There is a lot there that is irrelevant to Slackware, but also some important information.
Searching for those packages that used to be available ondownload.opensuse.org or some other community download site?Packages in the Package Hub remain available for the life of theSUSE Linux Enterprise product. Also, every release remainsavailable, so if an update breaks something, you can easilyroll back to the previous release.
The two binaries are in /opt/brother/Printers/HL1210W/lpd/ but afaict they only link libc (what matches ua4000's experience)This however also holds for /opt/brother/Printers/HL1210W/inf/braddprinter which *might* indicate that you have to re-add the printer in cups - the AUR package however depends on lib32-glibc, so you should have had it from the beginning on...
"didn't work" means "installation failed" or "i selected the hl2030 printer in cups but it behaves just like the 2010 one"?In latter case, this is probably not what makes the difference on the ubuntu system. Is the live ubuntu i386 or x86_64?
This driver is available in the Gutenprint Printer Application Gutenprint supports a wide variety of Epson Stylus, HP DeskJet, Canon BubbleJet, Lexmark inkjet printers, PCL laser printers, and Canon, Fujifilm, Sony, Olympus dye sublimation printers. Its primary goal is uncompromising quality. Epson Stylus printers in particular are supported in all resolutions and modes, and the latest printers are capable of producing prints that rival photographic prints in quality. This package also offers much faster printing for high quality text and presentation graphics when required. Gutenprint is the successor of Gimp-Print, it was renamed with the change from version 4.x to 5.x. All printers which worked with Gimp-Print before, work also (and hopefully better) with Gutenprint. The actual printer drivers are in the Gutenprint library. To give access to them Gutenprint has various interfaces: Plug-in for the GIMP: This plug-in provides a printing dialog for the GIMP to print images directly, and graphical controls to adjust the rich set of options of the Gutenprint drivers. The possibility to integrate a PPD file and to print PostScript allows to use the plug-in also with Ghostscript drivers other than Gutenprint or on PostScript printers. Native CUPS driver: This interface makes it possible to set up print queues under CUPS so that one can print from any application or from the command line. As it integrates directlty into the CUPS filtering system it is easy to set up in any CUPS 1.1.x or CUPS 1.2.x version without need of any additional software. With Foomatic it is even possible to use this native CUPS driver with other spoolers than CUPS. Ghostscript IJS plug-in: This is a way to use Gutenprint as a Ghostscript driver without necessity of patching and recompiling Ghostscript. It uses the IJS plug-in interface as also HPIJS from HP or the drivers for the Epson EPL-....L series do. IJS drivers can be used with any IJS-enabled Ghostscript as ESP Ghostscript 7.x or newer, GNU Ghostscript 6.53 or newer, APFL Ghostscript 7.04 or newer. With the Foomatic data coming with Gutenprint and the current Foomatic packages PPD files for use with all printing systems (CUPS, LPRng, LPD, GNUlpr, PPR, PDQ, CPS, spooler-less printing) can be generated. Print queues set up with these PPD files and foomatic-rip give full access to all options of the Gutenprint driver. The Gutenprint package already ships with all needed PPD files for CUPS and data files for Foomatic. Therefore we do not provide PPD files for download here. If you got Gutenprint with your operating system distribution, use the printer setup program coming with your distribution. Otherwise it is recommended to use the CUPS driver if you use CUPS as your printing system or the IJS driver if you use another spooler. IMPORTANT: Always use the Foomatic data and/or PPD files of the Gutenprint version which you are actually using! Remove and re-create your print queues after every update of Gutenprint. If you are using the Gutenprint package of your Linux distribution, it is possible that the Foomatic data and/or the PPD files can be in separate packages. Make sure you install them and that they are of the version corresponding to your Gutenprint package. The information currently here corresponds to driver version 5.2.7. If you use another version, have a look in the documentation coming with your Gutenprint package. If you have still a 4.x version of Gimp-Print, it is highly recommended to upgrade at least to Gutenprint 5.0.x. The driver package which is available for download here on this site only contains the CUPS driver and the utilities (escputil, cups-calibrate), it does not contain the IJS driver and the GIMP plug-in. 2ff7e9595c
